You're a bit mislead.  Component video is important for Non-Linear
editing.  And decent encoding is probably THE most important feature in a
Non-linear editing system.  The better encoding you have, the less
compression bandwidth is eaten up compressing the noise.  In other words,
the cleaner the signal, the easier it is to compress.  Therefore, you
will compress it less (with any system that has adaptive compression) for
the bandwith you're using.  Composite video has WAY too much artifacting
to be really easy to compress.  Think about how hard your composite
non-linear system has to work to compress all the chroma-crawl.  You can
cut bandwidth by probably 1/4 to 1/3 by going from a composite to a
component system.

Also, in my experience, the DPR has been WAY more stable then the flyers
that I've been working with.

Just be sure not to underestimate the value of a clean video signal going
in.  There's a HUGE difference between component and composite.  Hell,
even Y/C is a magnitude better than composite.
